![]() Theoretically, I'm receiving 2 Large M. itinerans var. xishuangbannensis corms. Just theoretically speaking, what would you guys do with these theoretical corms. How would you nurture them. I failed with a small Saba corm. I wouldn't want to fail with these theoretical corms. Not that they are real corms, just theoretical. I wouldn't want anybody to get the wrong idea.

![]() Hi Buffy,
Do you theorettically get them from Yunnan? I had contact with Hakkinen some time ago and he thought the species was not in culture outside of Yunnan,...would be very nice though if you could intruduct it,....to TC it for the members here maybe? Kind regards, Remko. |

![]() The source requested that I not put it into tissue culture. I will respectfully comply. You know, theoretically speaking, of course.

![]() Hello Buffy,
Aw, that's a pitty. Do you have any idea why 'the source' made that request? Kind regards, Remko. |

![]() Because they want to make money offering it for high prices. Makes sense. Back to the question. How would you nurture these corms.

![]() I would give it a very well draining fertile organic soil, with lots of manure and natural fertilizer. A warm but not completely sunny spot (they grow in the woods and need to be tall to reach lots of sunlight I guess).
Overwintering I would do in an unheated greenhouse, on the dry side... If you do get 'em,....could you take some detailed pictures then? Kind regards, Remko. |

![]() Theoretically, are they certain that they have M. itinerans var. 'Xishuangbannaensis'?
Since these are not a patented name or plant, you should be able to TC one and grow the other. As for getting them to grow, I would let them remain dormant for the winter and plant them in the spring. There are several threads about growing a corm here. A lot will depend upon the condition on arrival, your zone, when you get them, etc. There are a few of us who will TC it for you, if you like. This is not a commercial TC, just to put your mind at ease. This will give your seller peace of mind and you will be giving yourself every opportunity to assure yourself of having one make it, theoretically speaking of course. ![]() Yes, these are theoretically variety xishuangbannensis. Will banana corms be fine in a paper sack in a cool room over the winter? Seems a bit risky, especially for these theoretical bananas. A greenhouse should be fine, right? I'm thinking that conditions pleasant for phalaenopsis orchids should be good for possible xishuangbannensis bananas.

![]() This whole thread seems a bit murky to me. The simple answer would be to send the theoretical corms to me for safekeeping.
