Two mats, One Bloom and a Half leaf!
On Monday I received a pleasant surprise. My largest Orinoco mat has a half leaf and my second largest mat which originally was supposed to be an Ice Cream has a flower stalk. I guess I will find out if it is a Ice Creme or another Orinoco now. It had a bloom late last year but a late frost nailed it and they did not survive or bloom well enough for me to identify.
How long does Ice Cream take to ripen from a bloom? The greatest part of this is that with the Orinoco bloom starting on May 10 or so (just a flag leaf now) I am guaranteed to have ripe bananas. Last year this mat bloomed on June 1st and they all ripened but it was a small bunch. I'm hoping that this bunch will be larger and more bountiful. The P-stem is at least two foot taller. Now the first paragraph does not contain a typo. The two spellings are deliberate because I want your opinion. How do you spell Ice Cre**? I believe I'll have several more blooms this year thanks to a very mild Winter. |

I would get some good props ready, that stuff get surprisingly heavy, especially in high winds.
