Party Two Free Royal Hawaiian A'ea'e Pups

The large one in the top photo was a gift for one of our members that lost theirs last year and that walrus tusk looking thang I chopped off so I got a free one two.

Didn't have any roots but it's looking good after 20 days.

That's really cool. I did not know you could remove a pup that small and be successful. And by the way, free is a good price.

In my experience these walrus tusk looking things are the most vigorous pups. By making a lateral cut just above the tusk, the mother pup can be removed while leaving her pup connected to the main plant. When done this way, that pup appears to immediately become the dominant pup and could easily grow a foot of pseudostem in a few days. In the photo below, I removed the the large pup with it's pup from the main plant and then cut away the tusk. Done this way these tusks are still very vigorous and will quickly root, although done incorrectly they tend to rot before they start to push new leaves even though they are actively growing new roots.
