Truly Tiny Management
 

2 I got from Larry last year are doing very well, too well in fact. I couldn't wait any longer and had to separate some "pups". The whole works just gets too congested. I cut (2) off of one and (1) off the other. Super healthy plants and may be my favorite.

Anyone ever get one of these things to fruit?

Wow I thought truly tiny were smaller than that. I have some kind of dwarf cavendish that look about that size I got from Lowe's, the biggest it ever got was maybe 3.75 ft and it fruited. The fruit are truly tiny too! Here is a photo after it got bad frost damage:

I'd say at just under 4' you probably had a Truly Tiny. Mine are pretty small but really stout. All are less than 2' right now. They have been growing really fast lately and I waited way too long to separate.

Edited... Sorry, I had a Super Dwarf Cavendish, not a Truly Tiny. Looked just like a tiny bunch of bananas. Unfortunately, it never fully ripened as I had to move the plant as it was in bed that had to get reworked. I moved a pup and the original corm and they are very happy in their new location. They really are small, like 2 feet or so. I'll see if I can dig out my picture I took later...

I bought 2 of these so I could learn a thing or two. After I got them last year I brought them along in pots and after a couple of months planted one in the ground. It got really stout, much bigger than the potted one which makes sense. I brought the potted one in for the winter and it did very well but not much growth. The one in the ground was going to be ok until that late freeze we had and it mushed all the way down. It put out 3 pups, 2 of which I removed leaving one as the main plant. I had planted the potted one as early as possible and the main plant is smaller than the pups that just popped up on the other one in March.

Bottom line for me is even though it died all the way back, over wintering in ground was a better option.

Those look marvelous.
I have never flowered mine however they pup often and are a great pool and landscape filler.

I got my Truly Tiny 2 years ago as a TC from Wellspring.
It took a long time to start growing from a TC compared to other TC's I've grown but now it's fully established and rolling.

I've already separated 3 pups and there's still 3 growing in the pot.
The one on the right is Super Dwarf Cavendish which I originally got as a pup so it's a lot bigger.
Besides the size both my Truly Tiny & SDC look identical.. Petioles, leaves, stem, etc.

I've seen other threads on here saying that they are both the same plant and even if there is a real Truly Tiny many are just rebranded SDC... so who knows.

I'm expecting my SDC to fruit sooner

They look nice. I will say the TT (and ALL) tissue cultures I got from Larry exploded last year so it's possible I can get one of these to fruit. I have some solid backups now so I'll push the 2 in the ground hard and keep them pup free or no more than 1 each. I'd love to get one of these lil rascals to fruit.

Nice! I really want to get mine to fruit as well.
The only issue is these are not very cold tolerant.

The SDC has died back twice now, what you see is a pup that blew up :ha:
It's impossible to move that giant container indoors (it's a bit bigger than a whiskey barrel)
I managed with the smaller Truly Tiny but it looks like I need to repot it in a bigger container soon but then will definitely not be able to bring indoors if needed. Will just need to try and cover them best I can if we get a bad winter for the best chance of fruiting.

I have the worst time with Truly Tinys, I think they like it drier than most bananas. at least that seems for me what works to keep the small plants alive. Have you guys seen this too?

I am only one year in and the "raised bed" I have them in is super well draining so you may be right. They are gorgeous that's for sure as are all the plants I've gotten from you.

One of the pups I separated mid-June. This one really looks good and I'll officially put it in that blue container today.
