Trim or not?

I have a couple of second year basjoos and musellas that I bare rooted last year that have thrived and will be bare rooted again. Question is, I have a couple of E Maurelii first year TC with massive girth and huge leaves but only about five feet tall, do you remove the leaves of these too. Below freezing temps coming next weekend, time to start digging.:eek:

I cut off all but the topmost leaf and store bare root.
