Transplanting time?

Hey guys and gals,

Got a question about transplanting timing. My Super
Dwarf is in a 14" pot and really really needs to be put into a larger container. Should I do it now, wait until spring or just go for it. Also, should I separte the Mother plant and Pup during this since the mother plant has about 5 little pups that would like to grow and the 1st pup has 2 pups growing.

Kurt, I did several last week (85-90 all week)but only the one's I could grab and pull out of the pot in one big chunk. What I'm saying is, that if all you gotta do is grab the pseudostem like a handle, pull it out, put it in the new pot and fill around the sides I'd say your O.K. But not if you have to disrupt the roots. Mine suffered almost no shock and what little they did is less harmful to them than constantly drying out. I did transplant at night and gave them a couple days it the shade to let them adjust after the move. But if your soil stays moist I'd probably leave it be. They can being a lil rootbound and do fine, plus it is a super dwarf so your not really going for height. All in all, be careful. As for the pups. Leave or chop em. Your call. They will take energy from mom but you may like the look and again-it is a super dwarf. They just keep comin! Good luck.

if you have your overwintering down, and it sounds like you do, then go ahead. If you had a hard time overwintering it last year, then keep it in the smaller pot until warm weather next spring. If you do decide to separate it now, and personally I would, then this would also be the time to divide them. If you divide the pups off , you might not need a bigger pot for your mama plant though. I'd take off at least the one with the two pups on it. and maybe some of the others if they're large enough. If you're scared about dividing them or new to dividing them, take your plant out of the pot outside, wash off all the soil with a garden hose, and then you can see what you're doing really well.

I'ld split them or repot to a pot twice the size and expect to do again be for cold weather sets in. I did this last year with my dwarf cav. and just repotted to 5 gal pot them a twentyfive gallon pot, pic in my gallery, Now I wish I had split them, still gonna get around to it this summer, just been really busy.

thats a lot of nanas in that one little pot. split and put in bigger pots. they will love you for it.
