Transplant excitement and question
 

I planted them about a month ago. I am getting a new leaf on the one in the ground ( Hawaiian apple). The other has had no signs of life and then this morning there is a pup. Is this an indicator that the main pstem is not doing well?

I'd take what ya get. Momma looks fine to me. She may have put out a pup do to stress. Any who, I wouldn't worry a bit. Patience my friend. I'm sure she'll fill out.

Hey gadget,

That tall one that is pushing a leaf out is gonna crazy huge this summer!! Hopefully the Phoenix sun is fairly nice to it.

hey om fairly new but one thing iv learned living in Vegas is that they do need some protection for the late afternoon sun but she don't look that bad theirs no black on the stem that i can see and there is a new Leif popping out so remember gardening is an exercise in patients and bananas are really quite hardy despite there fragile appearance and a new littal one is alwas a good sign if u ask me

Perhaps the large one flowered last year and is done. They are bi-annuals after all. I had a couple do that after transplanting. Mine would not grow new leaves and started shooting up pups like crazy.

If that's the case, the large one may stop growing. But hey,,, you're gonna end up with a bunch of trees if those pups keep coming up.

I'm actually going to cut my tree to the ground and see if I can direct the rest of the plants energy into pup production.

In your case who knows, give it some time and the darn thing might take off!!!

They should do fine, I purchased them locally. The only hard part with bananas in phoenix is July when temps go over 110. As long as you stay on top of watering they do great.

i beleav they will grow in arazona but i would put thim in some shade and no after noon sun its way to hot there and id give them a good spray on the folige to help reduce the heat stress but after the summer heat gose away i would thing you and i would have a prity good chans of having are Bananas fruiting in the midal of winter if the teps stay warm more so for you then me my temp stay in the high 30 at night and low 60 dering the day but thats only for about 4 weeks for methen it rewarms fast are springs start in late jan early feb just like yours id think the wind would be a bit of a problim for you too id get plants that are good at talarating wind the Ice cream Banana is beter at talarating heat and wind then most

Dean I have an Orinko. I'm trying to grow a bunch of them. Here in San Antonio they die back in the winter and it looks like a real nightmare in the yard. But for me, it's well worth it to see them coming up in the spring.

Matter o fact, I think they're all ready for some fertilzer this week....

Potted banana not doing well, I cut 3 feet off and lots of brown. But I have another pup.
Should I just cut it down or see what happens?
The banana in my razed bed is doing great.
