Today was harvest day
I have been waiting since November of 2017 when the bananas first appeared. All winter they did nothing; did not die and did not grow.
Finally 4/11/18 we harvested them! All it took was for our weather in NC to warm up. They are in a heated to 55 degree at night 96' greenhouse So excited! And the other plant in the same pot has bananas that are starting to grow again! |

And how did you get them to fruit in a pot?

Re: Today was harvest day
Nothing special except maybe they are crowded. Hubs does fertilize and waters them. I have lots of bananas in pots in the greenhouse!

Re: Today was harvest day
I did not even know you could grow them in pots and get fruit. I do not have a greenhouse though.

Those are very nice looking bananas ... no blemishes on the peels! Nice job!

Re: Today was harvest day
Over half of the lower flower molded over the winter and I though for sure I would lose all of the bananas.
Actually it was in September when the plant came into bloom and I was worried about getting it back in the greenhouse in October without damaging the flower and baby bananas. So does this seem like 8 months is a long time to wait for fruit to ripen? The branch became so heavy that hubs used garden hose to tie it to the greenhouse frame. If anyone is interested, I can take pics tomorrow to show some of the others in the greenhouse. Hubs did divide most of them during a warm spell in March. Once we are past the danger of frost all the trees will summer outside. I am surprised Valdus that you did not know they will grow in large pots. It is the only way we can grow them here because our winters in NC are too cold. |
