Time to Harvest?

This was identified as a possible Namwah. It was suppose to be a blue java.
Should I harvest now?

Never mind on this one. I got a ladder and touched one of the yellow ones. It popped off in my hand.

I also learned a valuable lesson. Do not try to hold the banana bunch by the flower end stem as you cut the bunch off. It broke off and the bunch crashed to the ground smashing all the ripe ones.

I tried two, one very ripe like the one in the picture and one that was yellow but with a bit of green. The yellow-green one was short on flavor, approaching no flavor at all.

The yellow one with the brown spots in the picture has a wonderful, sweet flavor. Maybe a touch of apple. The texture is smooth, soft but not mushy like a brown spotted store bought. The skin is very thin, peels more like a thin paper.

This was suppose to be an icecream, but from the flower it was thought to be a Namwha but now I wonder about that.

Best to cut the bunch when one finger starts to yellow up. It's not like tomatoes. Hang in house and ripen. Keeps the critters away too.

How long did it take for those bananas to ripen? I have Namwah bananas but they are not even two months old yet.

I am also interested in how long they took to ripen. I have a bunch of Namwah's about 2 months old as well.
Thanks

Agree, cut them when you see the first hint of yellow. The whole bunch ripens pretty fast and nearly, but not completely, simultaneously.

I have several of these and they are all ripening at nearly the same time now. Give some away, but be sure you use some in fruit smoothies! They make very fine banana nut bread too.

They took about four and one half months.

I will sure bake up some banana bread.

Thanks

I would recommend harvesting them one hand at a time.

The ones I picked at 3 months took 4 days to ripen and the ones picked at 4.5 months took 4 days to ripen.
