Thieves take off with rare banana plants

I just wanted to share a news article with the group. Keep an eye on your plants, or get a guard dog. :ha: :ha:

Well, if any AE AE are on auction on ebay from Hawaii, we may now know where they come from? Never know!:2749:

That's terrible.
I hope they get caught and the plants returned to the garden.

I guess with these plants bringing the big bucks we will be seeing more of this kind of thing happening. Pretty sad really!

I'm sure they will show up on ebay or Craigslist unless they were sold directly to a landscape customer. The other possibility is that they want to grow them and start selling pups. Either way it sucks. I hope they didn't totally kill the mother plants when removing the pups.

This happens offen in my area, with sago palms. My friend had to chase off a guy who tried to dig up a huge 100 year old palm in his front yard. Sad.:abajo:

Yes, Steelviper - I wouldn't put a Sago out in the open here. :-(

Oh, and I had two Plumeria in our front yard cut in half a couple of years ago. Luckily, I potted what was left and they came back!

I have heard that some So Cal cycad growers are having their rare cycads micro chipped, and people are also doing it to their pets and senile parents/grandparents so they don't get lost.
