Is there a dwarf ladyfinger?

Anyone know of a Mysore or other "ladyfinger" that is dwarfed? Is there such a thing as a dwarf kru?

I really loved the ladyfinger bananas that grew in our yard when I grew up in Key West, but I'm going to need something that can be greenhoused. I understand Mysore is 12-16" at maturity? I doubt my greenhouse (yet to build) will have that kind of headroom in it. At any rate, I would prefer smaller rather than larger.

Dig this: almost every one of my potted bananas spit out a new leaf while sheltered from the hurricane. Hopefully, they will all enjoy going back out into the full sun (once all the debris is cut up and burned).

I have a small plant that produces great ladyfinger size bananas. A friend had a large clump and gave me a plant a few years ago. I fruited it last year and brought two plants with me when we moved in March. It fruits at about a 4-5 ft pseudostem height and probably to the tip top of the leaves, maybe 7-8 ft. If you want one, it will be a while before I get any pups but I'll give ya one. I don't know what it is, probably a generic dwarf cav so maybe you can find one at Home Depot sooner.

I think Misi Luki is supposed to be a close relative of Mysore (check out Going Bananas website catalog for more info). It is shorter than Mysore. I would also recommend dwarf Namwa. In my opinion, it may be the best tasting bananas there is in the finger group. It has a sweet, acid flavor that is outstanding. It also has better than average cold tolerance. I have some nice pups and if you are interested drop me a line. Another to think about would be Raja Puri. (It also has pretty good cold tolerance).

I have a plant that grows very small, slender and extremely sweet yellow bananas that only grows about 10 feet at the top of the leaves and the trunks get about 10 inches thick at the base. I don't know what kind it is but I'm sure it's some kind of ladyfinger.

Thanks Terry, isn't DC supposed to be a normal-sized fruit? If you're getting small fruit from it though, I am definitely interested when you get some pups!

Richard, If you mean Dwarf Namwah (regular green) pups, yes I would be interested. I have a couple of the Pearls, but I have a feeling they are going to be a long time before they do anything. They are really kind of slow to grow. Let me know what you want for a couple of the Dwarf Namwah shipped to zip code 36606 (my office in Mobile) Do you have a PayPal account?

I have been reading about Raja Puri and Misi Luki, but I wonder if they get a little too tall before fruiting for my space. I am also very interested in the Musa Rose, which is supposed to be 6-8 footer. Sure wish someone would come up with a Dwarf Kru!

My existing greenhouse has about 7ft. headroom, but the new one won't be too much taller (maybe 10-12 ft.) I am hoping to actually start construction soon. Unfortunately, the wife has WAY too much to say about how big and what kind of design and has delayed me a lot.

Casa Del Gatos, if headroom is an issue the Misi Luki is Out! I don't know what #'s you have on that plant but I am pretty sure a fellow near me has them fruiting at like 11 0r 12ft of trunk. Definately not a Dwarf.

Raja Puri fruits at about 6.5ft for me and is hands down THE best tasting banana I have had yet. They are also relatively small (lady fingerish). Especially depending on your growing conditions.

You need to take a closer look at Southerngrowers setup. He fruits Dwarf Orinoco and Raja Puri in his greenhouse. I believe 12ft headroom?

Dwarf Namwah is also tooooo tall for your proposed greenhouse. I believe they bloom at 9ft.

An old thread, indeed.
Just wanted to add this link to another dwarf ladyfinger thread:

The plant in your original message sounds like the Ladyfingers all around Ft. Myers. If you look for that thread, I think it started in mid August.

They won't be the same in flavor, but they will be great: go with a Dwarf Namwah, or if you have the space, a Misi Luki. You will not be disappointed. Of all the other varieties I have, Valery has been best producer.
