Default "Thai Dessert" taste report

First some photos--the fruit as tasted:

The bunch:

These are a banana I bought as "Thai Dessert/Kluay Khai" Originally purchased from the same seller who sold me Sucrier. Very similar banana. Both took a while to get the first bunch. They both look basically the same, the main difference is the Sucrier is known for leaning heavily early in growth and needing to be propped up long before there is any bunch on them. The difference with this banana, at least on comparing first bunches, is the fruit on this Thai Dessert was even smaller than that of the Sucrier.

I'll try these again in a few days once they are even more ripe.

The Taste Report:

TEXTURE-Creamy, with slightest bit of mealiness.

FIRMNESS-Firmness which breaks down easily when chewed. Much more firm than would be expected given the appearance of the peel.

SWEETNESS-Very sweet, slightly less sweet than a Sucrier. A bit of astringency felt on the tip of the tongue.

TARTNESS-none

RIPENESS- Completely yellow with brown spots. Slight green where the finger attaches to the hand. Had to be removed, didn’t just come off with gravity.

FLAVOR-Brown sugar, slight vegetal flavor. Leaves a bit of a film and aftertaste in the mouth which is not unpleasant.

OTHER-Almost the same as Sucrier with slightly more depth to the taste and not quite as sweet. Would have to taste side by side blind to really know if there is any difference. My sense is I like this better than Sucrier. Very thin skinned. Should probably be eaten extremely ripe. More vegetal tasting the earlier it is eaten. Very tiny. Eating 3 felt like barely eating anything.

OVERALL RATING-7. Pretty good. Could eat them on a regular basis. Very flavorful but I prefer some tartness in my bananas.

SUGGESTED USE-Eating out of hand or in dessert. Seem to travel well because they don’t fall apart from the hand when ripe.

Default Re: "Thai Dessert" taste report

Agristarts tried to sell me some of those back in '09, I just wasn't interested in a baby banana.
