Tampa before and after freeze pics
 

Well it only takes one hard freeze to destroy things. Got in the 20's unusual for this area. Six of my plants were fruiting and all the leaves are toast! Should I cut the mother plants down and see if the pups shoot new leaves?

It's so sickening to see that. Sorry about your banana plants. Hope the pups will continue to live on.

Pineapples were covered and seem to be ok. I guess I will know for sure in the next couple of days.

one freze will not kill them the ground is not frozen just leav them alon you will see leafs in a few days to a week if the temps modarat

I think the plants will push new leaves except the 6 that were already in the fruiting stage. Those plants will not put out any new leaves as far as my knowledge goes so I guess I should cut them down. Is this right?

The pups should be fine no matter what. we had a freeze here in mid Nov and that whacked all our leaves, 3-4 weeks of good temps had new leaves on all plants.

The fruits will be hit or miss depending on how cold they got. The corm is likely still pumping out nutrients to the fruits, so they migh grow some more. I'd say let them be until they turn brown and rank.

Just had to brave the winds off the ocean here. But that same ocean wind killed the freeze along the coast.

Bummer! That looks my mine after the arctic blast we had here a few years ago. One thing I found was that you want to remove all the dead leaves close to the p-stems asap so they can dry out and not rot. Once the rot starts its a pain to deal with.

As for the fruit you may as well take it down and let it ripen. Mine never seemed to grow much more and the skins had little freckles on them. The flavor was off on all of them too.

So my vote is cut down all the fruiting plants, trim the younger ones, and wait for new growth. I think you'll be happier faster that way.

It only got down to the mid to upper 30s here, so no freeze or frost damage. But the cold does change the flavor of some varieties, as Mitchel said. The Manzano's that were ripening have none of the apple taste anymore, but they still made great banana bread! I hope the cold weather for S.Fl is over for this year! Good luck on everyones recovery.

Agreed! I hate this cold but we still have another month to worry, Last year it started warming up by the end of Feb. I should be thank ful I did not have any fruit or flowers yet.
