Default Sword Suckers vs. Water Suckers

I understand that Sword Suckers are preferred to Water Suckers. Supposedly, Water Suckers will not fruit?

Does anybody have any more info on this? Also, will Water Suckers pup?

I have seen some water suckers thrive and do fine, but most just lack vigor and eventually fade out. Here is a live comparison.

That little water sucker looks just like the sucker that has come up from the ruins of my rulo - I hope it turns out ok.
