Sword sucker damaged. Do I cut it?

My Cuban Red sucker was bent a third of the way down from the top by the gardeners. It still has about 12-15 inches of undamaged stem above ground. One side of the stem is scarred and soft where it bent but the other side of the stem seems okay. Should I leave it to grow or cut off the top just below the bend? It was removed from the mother plant two weeks ago and has not grown any new leaves yet, so I am not sure how strong it is. Any help appreciated.

Crop it right below the bend. Next year you won't see any evidence of it.

You could leave it too - it will just grow through it/around it.

I already cut it. The stem was damaged all the way through and was black and mushy.The top of the cut plant is about 1 1/4 inch across now. The center has started to edge up after 24hrs. It is a red and seems slower growing than the other plants I have. For example my Manzano grew several inches in 24 hours but it was also 6-7 foot high before and well established in the ground. I am getting another red sucker tomorrow from a friend I hope he will give me one with leaves already.:woohoonaner:
