Default SUCCESS! I ate my first self-grown banana today!

Last June one of my Praying Hands sent forth its fruiting body, just in the past few days I finally noticed a slight yellowing, luckily there have been no hard freezes yet (Tallahassee, FL), I machete'd down the bunch, peeled one of the green/brown/yellowish-skinned ones, it was PERFECT inside! Perfect looking, perfect texture (firm but smooth & creamy), and TASTY! Sweeet, great tasting fruit, probably the best banana "meat" I've ever eaten.

Finally, to eat some home grown bananas! It took two and a half years. Worth it!

Not to mention that the PH's are among the largest and most beautiful looking of all the cultivars in my yard.

Oh, I should mention that the Misi Luki (could be Raja P.?) also fruited in June, however they are not yellow at all yet, but I cut the bunch today too in anticipation of approaching cold weather and they're hanging in the garage along with a green bunch of PH's. My Ladyfinger only started fruiting in November. IF it doesn't freeze bad this year (fat chance) maybe they'll winter over & ripen by summer.

Don't even get me started on my 2009 Havana leaf cigar tobacco growing/harvest/drying/fermentation/curing enterprise which has been a continual and ongoing near-daily commitment. That's another forum . . .

Awesome for you Oblofusc!!!

Thanks for the FLAVOR breakdown!!

What was the size of one of the fruit?

Did the fingers separate, or is it a huge fused bunch of fingers? ~CHeryl

Fruit maybe 4" long, stays separated but peels easily & fruit comes right out.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Best present I've heard of today!....so far!

One of the members here sent me a hand of apple bananas and they ripened nicely in a brown paper bag with an apple put in with them.
