![]() With the passing of our buddy Tog, I got to thinking about what a loss it was to our magazine not to have him here to report from the jungles and provide his "international" perspective. Luckily, we do still have Lorax who occasionally romps through the jungles, eats whatever creatures she comes across and then reports back to us!
I realize that the majority of our membership may be here in the U.S.; however, we are supposed to be the International Banana Society, and we have great members from all over the world. As such, I'd love to get article and photo submissions from our members the world over: Europe, Asia, South America, Central America, Canada...in short, wherever you are. We are an International group and I'd like to see our magazine reflect that. We have great members from all over the world and I'd like to get your insights on banana growing from your country or region. Think about Tog's great passion for life and willingness to share...that's what we should all be doing here. You can send your submissions for consideration by the magazine staff to: bananasquarterly@gmail.com Thanks! ![]() |

![]() Not true Jack and evryone. You would be surprised what you could contribute. How about a story of how you obtained and are cultivating the hill bananas, we've had nothing else from India. Maybe you know something of their origin you could share. How did someone from Slovakia get started with bananas of all things (remind me to PM you with some funny hunting stories with the Slovakians here). The point is there is something everyone can contribute....... what would you like to write? I'd like to read it.

![]() ![]() ![]() And how I got to naners? I've always been where no one from my region has been before. ![]() ![]() Acutally more than the plants,... besides that I like the plants... what I like about this site, is that I found some friends here. People, I can talk to about almost any topic, not only bananas. With some of them it is quite limited, but with most of them it is always pleasure and fun to chat. Also I found someone here, who left Slovakia a long time ago after studies and thought he would never hear our language again, not even speaking about talking to any Slovak personally. And as a matter of fact, although there's an age barrier between us, I believe that he's the nr.1 source of information about bananas. And finally, I got the feeling, that I can't bring to outer realm (real world), that besides these terrible times (sorry, I'm a student and my world is idealistic) there are still people that I can see humanity, open-mindness and helpfulness in. And frankly, that's what keeps me posting here more, than any banana plant. ![]() ![]() Btw. Slovakia - Slovak language - Slovak (man, woman...) I know that it's tempeting to use ian, but it's not correct and my teacher would always shout for hours when I said "ian" near any person from another country. ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Jack,
I think you underestimate yourself-that's why I posted this thread. I feel each and every member has something valuable to contribute to the org and the magazine. Personal stories of how you got started or what banana growing means to you would make good stories for our magazine. Even for folks who don't really know (or care) about the scientific part of banana-growing have things to contribute, even if it's only in photographic form. Send in your photos. You don't have to be an expert photographer. You should take your time and submit the best photos you can take but please don't feel you have to be a professional photographer or writer to be a part of the magazine. Note to the moderators: I'd like to see this thread made into a "sticky" if you all feel it is warranted. Thanks! |

![]() Excellent! I recently hit up a couple of members via PM as well. Hopefully they'll come through for us. I know that both of these members stay very busy but I hope they can find time to write something as I feel they both have a lot to offer.

![]() OK, since the bananas quarterly go out quarterly, I think it could be possible to make a new topic there, or a set of articles called "Growing bananas in Europe."
I would surely try to contact some very experienced people in here, as for pictures etc etc. First on my mind would be maybe Roland Reineck, from Germany, as he's doing an incredibly amazing job and has been growing bananas for more than 20 years. Should I mail him for more info? Btw. Bananen, Anregungen u. Tips.
