Store-bought baby/mini bananas: What variety?
Does anyone know what banana variety are the store-bought baby/mini bananas commonly found in supermarkets? I don't like them, even when I let the peel turn all the way black? The bananas are sweet but lack a complexity of taste. I don't want to waste my time growing a variety of banana that I know I do not like.
I am aware that the larger bananas are Cavendish, but what are the smaller ones? |

Depending on where you live, they are called Pisang Mas, Kluai Khai, Nino, Fig, Sucrier, etc. They are in the Sucrier subgroub and have AA genome.
I find it hard to get good ones from the store. Usually they are really bruised, which affects their flavor. At best they are super sweet with a complex aroma, but no acidity. Not my favorite banana, but they are good if you are in the mood for something sweet. Some people absolutely love them. |

There is a web site (referenced somewhere on this site) which provides an index to the codes on the stickers on the banana fruits. Can you give us a picture of the label, or just state the Brand and produce code on it?

Got some of these today.
Do you wait for these to turn yellow? Are they like Mysore Ladyfinger? Randy |

From an old post. Not sure if it's changed in six years.

Yes, let them get yellow -- or about the same as you would eat a regular Cavendish. They get super soft and mushy if you let them get really ripe. |

Thanks that gives me a idea of the taste. I am not a big fan of mushy bananas so I will try them when they first break yellow.
