Default Stem smell

My banana's stem (see gallery) started to smell like a jasmine or lemon flower a few days ago. This odour is the storngest in high aprox. 8 in. Other part of plant smell normaly like green leaves. Stem seems to be healthy.
What is your opinion about this phenomenon?
Thanks.
