Hua Moa. I have figured out which varieties I am good at growing: Hua Moa and Maricongo. I'll have about 90 Hua Moas, 20 maricongos, and hopefully an assortment of FHIAs.

I wish you success with your new plantings Nicolas! Looking good! :woohoonaner:
How come you didnt include Namwah or Mysore and Kandrian?

Do you have any photos of mature Maricongo plants? How tall do they grow?

Re: Starting Over

There actually are 2 Namwahs, 2 FHIA-17s, and a Pisang Klotek at my house, but they are already well established. The maricongo is a little taller than Hua Moa, maybe about 14 feet tall.

Nicolas, we've been learning about the Maricongo from you through various posts. It would be interesting to start a thread on this variety so all the info can be collected in one place and perhaps someday pin down the genetics.

Re: Starting Over

Before I leave my farm, I will go through each variety and take pictures of each variety. Maricongo is just a standard puerto rican plantain.

Re: Starting Over

Thanks for the picture. I'm glad you had the room to plant that many. Any chance of you narrating a video of the farm before you leave for good?

Re: Starting Over

I can't stand seeing myself in video so probably no narrated videos. I'm trying to decide on how long I will keep going. I have an option to rent the property until April at 4 times the current rental rate; otherwise, I'll be off Dec. 3st. I'm trying to figure out whether or not I can still make money paying that much for land. Obviously, there is still lots of fruit out there, so I have to go out and count bunches and figure it out from there.

When you can sample fruit for the Mysore that you have and the Pisang Klotek I'd love to hear the comparison.

The plants look very similar. I'm probably not the best taste tester though.

Re: Starting Over

Hey Mitchel, I've been eating Mysore from BadPun for the past few days. I had the Pisang Klotek you gave me nearly a year ago, so I can't do a side by side comparison, and you told me that the batch of PK you gave me were not at their best. That said, the two are very, very similar. BadPun's Mysore are better than the PK were. But that could be because they were allowed to plump up and didn't hang over winter. I get more zingy, wow! sweettart candy flavor (and better texture) from BadPun's Mysore, and the PK you gave me had more pineapple and strawberry. Maybe someday someone will have a bunch of both at the same time, grown in the same yard, to do a fair comparison. The short answer for me is, they may be the same plant or they may not, but they are very similar and make the best bananas I've ever tasted.
