Splitting pups before replanting in the spring

I have numerous plants that have many large pups growing with them. I did not separate them when I took them out for the winter. They are currently in my basement doing quite well. My question is, can I separate the pups before replanting them outside in the spring, or should I replant them outside, wait a month or so, and then separate the pups. It would be much easier if I separated them before replanting outside, but I'm not sure if that would harm the trees, during the critical time of replanting outside. I live in NJ so I trim them down and take them in every year.

Post pictures of the plants, please...

As you can see (hopefully) from the 2 photos, I have 5 containers with numerous banana plants in them. All the plants in each individual container are still attached to each other from last fall. You can see they held up pretty well this winter in my basement. I would like to separate them before replanting them as soon as the New Jersey temperatures permit.

I don't if the rules allow you to contact me directly by my email, but please don't hesitate if you have further questions - richrut@yahoo.com

Thank you very much for you help here.

You may do it either way.
Try to minimize disturbing the roots too much during the transplant.
Don't fertilize till active growth starts.
Minimize watering to prevent roots from rotting.
Looks like some nice plants and good luck with them.

Next year just split them as you put them up for the winter if you wish.
Me, I will run a knife between the plants to just separate them in the container and then plant out when the time is right.
