Looks like your plants will have a comfy chair to rest in for the winter!
I think the one may be a Ti plant? |
Re: Some Photos of my plants and newfoundland!! Done Today.!
The banana resting in the first pictures certainly looks like a dwarf Cavendish.

Love the pic of your driveway! I like the spruces and other conifers also. We can grow them here in Knoxville, but nothing like you guys can!
I agree with the others on the banana - looks like dwarf cavendish to me. The spikey plant is a dracaena, probably dracaena marginata. Nice bird of paradise and pitcher plant also. Don't water that BOP much at all during the winter (or the banana for that matter). They have a tendency to get root-rot very easily! Nice frog too. BTW, what's it like living in your own time zone? Why does Newfoundland have its own time zone? So strange that you are 1/2 hour ahead of Eastern Time. Must be confusing when your favorite tv shows come on... Please don't take any offense to this next question...there is none intended...I was born in Canada (Calgary, Alberta), and also lived in New Brunswick for a short time...why do they call you guys the "Goofy Newfies?" I have always thought of that term as sort of an endearing term used by other Canadians for you guys, but I don't know where it came from. |

I agree with Bigdog. I have the same plant you do. It is a Dracaena Marginata! Actually, I have a few of them. The red tips of the leaf is very distinct. Also, you might want to give it a bigger pot soon! I will load some pictures of mine sometime soon!

Great pics Taylor and Cavendish!
I have S. Reginae and a baby S. nicolai. I've had the regular BOP for over two years now and it was at least a year old when I bought it. I'm gonna repot as it is quite potbound (even though they like it) and have it out in spring next year to give it EVERY chance to bloom. It's a plan. I'm gonna plant the White BOP right in the ground next spring just for a conversation piece and see how much it grows. Zman |

Your driveway looks just like any place here in Norway! The picture could just as well have been taken somewhere around here! :2748:
The other pics were great too! Gard |

Beautiful pics!
I like the shot of the leopard frog. I used to catch them when I was a kid. You have to use a fishing net with a long handle and walk along the bank of the canal with the net as far in front of you as possible. When the frogs hear you coming, they dart into the water, but some of them land in the net because, well, they're frogs. :D :ropingnaner: |

Good to see another Canadian on the site!
I now live in California for work which also enables me to support my banana hobby with relative ease compared to your climate. I take it you are in zone 5? Have you attempted to plant any nanners outside yet for the summer? You must have a few months of 16 hour sunlight (when the sun breaks through the clouds) that should give your plants a quick growth spurt. You would likely have some success in large pots with smaller species too. Overwintering tips abound on this website and I'm sure some of the senior members have some good tips for dealing with your winter season.....Good Luck! Jay |
Re: Some Photos of my plants and newfoundland!! Done Today.!
Jarred- Just FYI, thats a Green Frog (Rana clamitans), rather than a Leopard frog. Its actually an introduced species on Newfoundland. I go herping as well as growing plants and reptiles and amphibians were my first interest as a child. The plants came later.
