i go out to weed around my nanas this morning and low and behold i have 17 pups ( i thought they were weeds...well duh!) that range in size from 1/2 inch tall to one that is 6 inches tall. should i leave them all on or should i take some off???? i was doing a happy dance when i saw the pups and then counted them. i was left scratching my head at what to do with them all... i want to keep the pups but for the overal health of the tree im not sure...so all you nana gurus, "help i need advise"!!!

Well mskitty, when you do cut any of them, I am quite certain that you will not lack for interested adoptive parents on this forum. Include me in that category!
Great job! |

I don't have any helpful information for you, being relatively new to growing bananas, but WOW that would be so great to have that many pups!

It depends on what you want from the plant. Pups do not hurt the plant in anyway, they are completely natural and part of the plants life cycle. However, if it's a fruiting variety and you want to push it into faster fruiting and larger bunches, then its valuable to manage the pups and only keep a few on at a time. Also, if you want to propagate the plant, you can of course remove them for that purpose, but there is no need to take them off for the health of the plant or just for the sake of it.
