Small Mail Order Nana Question
I just got two small Banana plants that I bought on ebay. They are each about 6-7 inches high and appear to be healthy. I live in South Florida and plan on planting them outdoors. I notriced a few posts where people with small plants pot them first, I'm wondering if I should place them in a large pot for a few months so they can grow a bit or should I just plant them in the ground now so they are only moved the one time?

Re: Small Mail Order Nana Question
In your area they should do fine in the ground. I have mine in pots to be able to get them thru the winter, but I now have several RP pups, so I put one in the ground--it has almost caught up to the one that was twice the size in a pot.

Yeah, if you're not going to take them in for the winter, there's no reason you can't just plant em in the ground. You might wanna be careful to acclimatize them to full sunlight...maybe use a shade cloth for a week or two or something. Otherwise, if it gets too cold and you need to bring them in for winter, I'd plant them in a pot...but you're probably good in your climate. Also, watch the watering...don't overwater....wet the soil well when you water, but wait till it gets a bit dry before watering again. Also, do NOT water during the hot part of the day...early morning and late evening are best. And you don't need to water the leaves (especially do not get them wet under the hot sun...they'll burn to a crisp!).
Hope that helps! Best of luck! |
