Default Shipping to Canada

Does anybody know if a banana corm is able to be shipped to Canada from any countries without problems from customs. The U.S.A. does not permit this or sellers do not want the hassle. Thanks Dave.

Best to contact Canadian agency that covers plant imports.

Canada has strict phytosanitary rules for import of plant material. A corm can be shipped into Canada as "dormant plant material" provided:
1. there is no trace of soil
2. there are no roots visible (nubs ok)
3. there are no leaves
4. it is accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate - which here in the U.S. a seller can obtain on a walk-in basis at the county agricultural department. You will have to pay a non-trivial fee.

Other than this approach, you can generally ship plants into Canada provided your nursery has U.S. and International plant propagation phytosanitary certificates - which only large wholesale growers are going to bother with. In fact most international growers establish propagation nurseries in each country of concern to keep the number of cross-border shipments to a minimum.

My experience shipping merchandise to Canada is that UPS takes 3-5 days to clear Canadian customs but USPS takes 1 day. UPS explains this by pointing out that USPS is the U.S. Government.
