Default Send Warm Weather

Come on Mother Nature I have Banana Plants beating on the basement door wanting outside. Still 40ºF nights. High today 52ºF, last frost date May 15. Got to get better next week, I hope. We do have plenty of water though, with the Mississippi River running wild.

Any picture of the red abyssinian? How big at end of summer? How big when you started and how did you store it for winter.
Thanks!

Thanks!

When purchased

On the right, not the best pic.

What I cut down.

The corm cut as seen on youtube.

They shot up some pups. Divided one yesterday, some not rooted enough yet.

WOW! Looks like you did not dry corm after cutting? or if you did, would be short time as the pstem cross section looks pretty fresh. This is news for me that by splitting corm into various pieces like this that one gets numerous pups - fantastic way to propagate, especially as Ensete maurelii does not pup well on its own.
What sort of mix are you using? and when did you make the corm cut?
AND what is you tube url?
(Do regular musas pup like this if corms chopped into sections??)

I cut it and potted it, waited a couple of days before watering and watered sparingly when dry. I did not use any fungus control, but may be a good idea to put some cinnamon or fungus powder on the corm.I cut it at the end of the growing season, put it in the 60ºF basement with grow lights. In march I put it on the heat mat. Here's the url to the video- https://youtu.be/dviqZKgJkKE
I use potting mix I get at Menards, sometimes I mix in some perlite.

Question Re: Send Warm Weather

I'm new here, still have lots to learn... Thanks for posting!
Question: how thick were the slices you cut and how far up did you go / were they successful?
Or do I misunderstand and you only used the crown cut into quarters?

Yes, I cut the corm in quarters, there's a url to a YouTube video on this in my last post.

"An unusual bout of widespread late May rain now appears increasingly likely across most of CA over next 10 days as jet stream briefly strengthens to winter-like speed over N. Pacific. Well below avg temps & soaking rainfall possible; even some snow in high Sierra!"

Iowa's youtube video is absolutely top notch - both photography as well as content. A must watch! https://youtu.be/dviqZKgJkKE And checking out a french video on propagation, looks like similar procedure can be used on bananas, though it appears they just make deep cuts in the crown, leaving the whole corm whole.
