Re: Second Annual Upper Gulf Coast Banana Meet 2013
OK here's the Skinney,,,
Food, Fun and Fellowship was FANTASTIC!! Charles and his family welcomed everyone in a grand fashion!! It was a lot of work for them and I just want to publicly thank them very much! I had a BLAST! As Charles mentioned Mr. Skeet enlightened us with his vast knowledge of ALL Plants in general:} I asked every question I could think of and he was kind enough to answer. I was one of the fortunate folks to receive a grafted Ms. Holland Avocado Plants. My promise was to keep everyone posted on how it progresses and I WILL:} I was also honored to receive a Super Bum banana plant which fits me and my lifestyle perfectly lol We were treated to a presentation on keeping bee's which was entertaining as well as very informative:} Anyway here a a few pics that I took, I vowed to take more however; I was so amazed and grateful to be able to meet such great folks and receive such great information and hell having such a good time, I didn't have time to take more pictures lol Sorry! OH did I mention how GREAT the food was? :} Again thanks everyone for your friendship and genuine concern...it was a great day! I like DAT me! Fred

Re: Second Annual Upper Gulf Coast Banana Meet 2013
It was great event. I arrive about 11:00 since the early morning was spent taking a couple of colleagues from Georgia Tech and UWF out to go shooting. Got back home at about 10 took care of my bulldog puppies and headed out for the event. The most important thing that I gained was a lot of knowledge. Skeet is actually Dr. Lores that is a highly published environmental scientist. I learned a lot from Skeet about plants and grafting. I also invited a colleague to come the get together from the local UWF and we had learned some important environmental facts that will help us with a paper we are writing on our local Escambia Bay. We found non-degraded DDT in the river system and skeet told us that the local cotton farmers had managed to get ahold of DDT which is not legal to use in the US.
Oh by the way the food was great and I apparently ate too much. I felt a little ill and very tired for some reason and left at 3:00. Other than giving the pups a couple of short walks spent the remainder of the day/evening napping off and on. I will go out now and water the plants I picked up and start stacking some firewood. |

Sorry, no pics - I was so busy gathering pups to bring that I forgot my camera. - I looked for you when we (Darrell and I were leaving) but you had disappeared - Skeet and the Bee guy were excellent additions to an already fantastic day. Abnshrek (Michael) I'm going to enjoy the datil and stubby D.braz -got back to Biloxi late but, they are going into the ground today. My wife was excited over the plumeria, another great addition for the patio. Barbeque, great sides, and some cajun dishes, and deserts were yummy but I did doze a few times after all that food during the bee class. Snookie and the Super Bum are an excellent match, please post some pics when it grows to adult size. It was great meeting everyone in person and matching posts with real people - Darrell and Snookie treated us to some laughable cajun flavored conversations. a wonderful day - well worth the trip. jose (TJ)

Re: Second Annual Upper Gulf Coast Banana Meet 2013
I knew I should have told the wives to take pictures. Sheesh! Only 4 handsome men--Bee guy and 3 members didn't cut and run. (I was expecting a nice posed group shot like Snookie's; we always did that for swaps.) Oh, well! Beautiful yard. I so admire people who hardscape to match their landscape; the ability to do that is a true gift.

Re: Second Annual Upper Gulf Coast Banana Meet 2013
Holy cow! EE leaves grow that large? Hmmm, I'm thinking I could use one of that type....
Thanks for the pictures! What a nice looking bunch of banana guys! (Though why the banana shots are so big and the people ones are so little has me a bit puzzled.)
