I AM NOT SURE OF THE VARIETIES. NONE OF THE PLANTS ARE IN THE ENCLOSURES , BUT THEY FEED THEM THE FRUIT.

We live close and have passes to the Wild Animal Park and SD Zoo. Have you been to the Wild Animal Park? In my opinion (which doesn't count for much) the plant life at the Wild Animal Park is amazing. They have bamboo like I have never seen before and the most amazing varieties. You go from the tropics to Africa settings and the plants follow. I'm sure you have seen this stuff but I was just throwing my 2 cents in. Great pictures by the way. I haven't been in awhile and your pictures are making me want to go.

Haven't been to the Wild Animal Park in a long time. I am only about three miles from the zoo. With passes and such a short distance Mason and I go often. Its funny I never noticed all the fruiting plants until I started growing some. There is a mini plantation at the north east corner of the zoo, bananas , guavas . coffee . Check it out.

The San Diego zoo's plant collection is world class, at one point in the top 5.

Bananas, coffee, and guavas. Okay, now I have to go! I will have to look up what a coffee tree/plant looks like becasue I won't even know what I'm looking at and I would love to see it. I'm for sure going to go check it out. Thanks for the info.

As soon as you enter the zoo hang a right. Go all the way to the north east corner. You will see the Pitaya plant , right above it is a soda machine and picinc bench ,the coffee plant is right there. All the plants are labeled .There are other areas in the zoo with fruiting plants , but this spot is the most consentrated.

The 100-acre (40-hectare) Zoo is home to over 3,700 rare and endangered animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies, and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants. It is located just north of downtown San Diego in Balboa Park.
