Congrats! Cant wait to see some pics! My Saba is only going into it's second full summer now. Its actually the youngest of all my banana plants but its the tallest at 9 feet tall! They are definitely fast growers and tall growers! I hear they bloom around a height of 30 feet! That height probably even increases as the grove ages.

Congratulations - they do get very large and usually crop heavily too although the fruit takes a long time to ripen. Other varieties take about 4 months to ripen while these take 6 months. I am just about to remove my mat and replace it with something smaller. The current Sabas have 30ft of pstem and two have 60lb+ bunches ripening. I am giving the pups away to a friend today and once the fruit ripens I will replace the mat with a superb Orinoco that is a bit too shaded where it is. At least with the Orinoco I will be able to reach the dead leaves to trim them and I prefer their flavour. The gardeners treat the Sabas as plantains and eat them boiled. Good luck with your fruit and I hope it crops heavily for you - you can get 80lb+ bunches!!

Thanks!
Have you ever eaten the fruit when it's ripe?

Yes - many times! Quite nice flavour. Probably make good tostones or fried bananas too.

Congrats Brad
Sabas are amazing. I remember the first time mine fruited and how far up there it was. I could'nt use a pvc prop because it was so long and flimsy so I had a couple props fabricated out of aluminum tubing and they work great. |

Thanks for sharing a pic! Looks great!
Are these the same bananas that are sold as triangle bananas (they are small cooking bananas with 3 sides to it instead of being a complete cylinder shape like most bananas)? I see those available here rarely, but occasionally and they taste pretty good!
