Default Rotten nana's

Need some help on this one form some of you experienced fruit growers. I've grown nana's for a number of years but this is my first year with a flower. It (Orinoco) began flowering several weeks ago and was coming along nicely. The first two hands looked great, but as the bract opened to reveal the third, the mini-nana's looked a lil brown. I went to examine them and they fell off in my hand. I took one and broke it open and it looked rotten inside. It has since opened 3 more bracts and the same thing. The first two hands are growing and developing nicely. Rot to me is usually too much water but I don't know when your dealing w/a flower. I'm not watering but every 2-3 days when needed. My temps are mid 90's and my soil is 6-8" organic on top of Kansas soil, which has been tilled. The weird thing is the nana looks fine. Actually everything in the bed seems fine. The Orinoco right next to it is cruisin along at nearly 10'. Kinda strange. Anyone ever experience this? Thanx in advance.-Nate

It sounds like those are male flowers. My Dwarf Brazilian had hands of 7, 7, 7, 8, 8 and then the next hand had 3 more and about 5 male flowers (I think, though they have not dropped off). The subsequent hands have been male flowers which have dropped off.

Can't you tell the difference between boys and girls???

There's got to be an explanation of this online, I'll look in a bit.

This describes it, though those Ausies talk like THEY are looking at things upside down!

Hmmm! yes - they do look sad and rotten. I have just had flowers on both dwarf and regular orinoco, and the male flowers didn't do that. Can't be humidity I would have thought unless you have had cold damp nights - no aphids or thrips to be seen I assume? Hope someone can help!

PLENTY of humidity here. Nites have been around 75. Nope, no pests.

Nate, I think your rotten bananas are probably just male flowers which drop off anyways. Yes, I would imagine they get rotten, but I just let them drop off and didn't check them out as closely as you. Read the discussion that I linked up above.
