which are the right sugar banana suckers to plant
 

A neighbour is digging up his Lady Finger suckers and has offered me some.
I want to know which suckers to use to grow lady fingers
Do you use the ones that grow next to the parent tree or away from it.
I haven't grown bananas from suckers for about 20 years. I remember something about using the right ones or the new plants won't get any fruit.

I live on the South Coast of NSW,about 250 klm south of Sydney, near Nowra(Shoalhaven area)
I want to know if it's ok to plant them in May.

What is a sugar banana? Are you talking about dessert bananas vs plantains?

Either way sword are supposed to go better but water suckers just take longer to get established.

And Yes May should be ok to plant as you apear not to be too far from the coast.:lurk:

I don't know what you mean by "Lady finger suckers ? or sugar = Ducasse ?"
I just know my neighbour is offering me some Lady Finger suckers and I thought that they were also called Sugar Bananas.
And I don't want to waste my time planting ones that won't ever fruit.

They will all fruit, they are all genetically identical and will behave the same if treated the same. The only difference is how soon or easily they begin to grow, but once they get rooted and start growing they will all be the same. You want to make sure you get a solid, intact portion of the underground corm with each sucker. If you are direct planting in the ground (instead of putting in pots first) the larger suckers are better, in the 50-100cm range.
