Replacing banana - what to back fill with?

I'm pulling out a banana (mysore) that is too big for the space I have it. I'm going to replace with something smaller (dwarf Brazilian probably). When I pull up the mysore, I'm going to have a hole that is too big for the dwarf Brazilian and no soil to back fill with once planted. What should I do; get some topsoil from home depot to back fill? Thanks.

Back fill with surrounding native soil that you have heavily amended with organics.

Organics can be peat based products, leaves, wood chips, mulch, anything that will add volume and substance to your soil to bring the area back up to grade.
Add some organic fertilizer to the mix to start biological action with your new growing area....your plants roots will thank you.

You will expand your hole size a bit to use the surrounding soil as a backfill.
YouTube has some good content about soil amending.

I have a negative opinion on most big box store bagged muck they call topsoil.
Look for broken bags of products for a great reduction in cost.

50/50 Black Cow and surrounding soil has worked great for me.
