I have this main banana plant the was doing very well until February. Im pretty sure one week in Feb the planter dried out a bit too much. I then think I over watered it to flood all the dry soil and then maybe over fertilized. It had 4-5 really small pups that did not grow for 6-9 months. Main plant was growing. In March after the mess, the main leaves drooped a bit and then yellowed after a month. It had spider mites and odd spots in the leaves
are dead even with new growth. It has stopped growing but the pups are rocketing now

2-3 weeks ago I cut away 1 pup thinking it would help eh main plant. Since then 2 more dormant pups took off. I like to keep the main plant alive to see if it will bloom. Been 18 months + so far.

After cutting back the old leaves I noticed the top stem was a bit mushy and had white fungus or mold. I cut all that off to let it dry out.

Im thinking, I like to cut the pups off so the main plant does not have to complete with the pups. Hoping it will come back. Or will cutting off the pups actually slow the main main plant?

it is a nice looking plant for this time of year in newmarket
i think the main stem will take off when you bring it outside in another month or so
again nice plant considering what it was up against
i have the same issues with my plants

Cutting pups will help direct energy to the mom, although in the process you may cut roots from the mom slowing her growth, but... the mom has the size and will prevail.

And the pups can be planted in pots for new plants. Win Win!
