Very nice! What happens to the color as the fruit matures?

Re: Red Kru Bunch

Congrats Frank! Those are good sized Red Kru!
These ripen very fast too.
The fruits start green on day one and the parts exposed to the sun turn purple. The inside of the bracts are cream. You can see what I mean in the link below. This is a gorgeous banana and extremely delicious! I have a bunch hanging now and had another earilier this year. That thread is here, if you want to see some other pics:

Any idea why this Red Kru is so much nicer looking than yours that you linked, Jarred (or others)? As you say yourself, Jarred, yours is beat up and brown but this one looks nice.

Re: Red Kru Bunch

My mat is probably not planted in soil as rich nor received the care Franks did.
I may try and replant my mat in a different spot, I think the spot where it is isn't very fertile ground. I thought though that it was the sun and wind tearing mine up but maybe if it could pull more nutrients from the ground it would be able to offset the elements.
If you saw my yard you would know what I mean, but it's planted now on a hill that leads down to a drainage ditch, and the hill has white rock in it, so its not the most fertile ground and secondly, the nutrients and moisture wash down so the plant isn't able to soak up water and compost tea like the plants on flat ground are able to. I'll either give it a lot more attention and supplementation or I may move it and experiment with a different spot.
It's great to be able to compare notes like this, though, that's for sure!

Terry,

My red Kru has produced its' first 2 pups. Please allow me to return the favor for the 3 I got from you.

So, for a limited time and a limited time only, you can be the lucky owner of one, or both, Red Kru Pups. For just a nominal fee, and a tank of gas to and from the lovely outskirts of downtown PSL, they are yours.

Re: Red Kru Bunch

Thanks, Jarred, I remember considered Red Kru once and your "ugly" comments led me to take it off of my list. I'm still not sure I should put it back on my "list" because of the wiki comment that it is "quite cold sensitive", yet it's rate for zones 8-10.

Now, for another question: This thread and Jarred's prior thread described it as 'Red Kru' yet he wiki linked in Jarred's older thread just calls it 'Kru'. Which is it?

Thanks!

Re: Red Kru Bunch

Harvey,
This is one of the fun and better bananas to grow, for many reasons. The shape and direction of the bunch is beautiful, they point like the way you grip a basketball, your fingers will all point in the same direction around the ball, well thats how these grow, very angular along that sort of sphere. And the color is rivaled by few other bananas, these are multicolor which makes them spectacular.
The taste is superior to most other bananas in my opinion as well, very fruity and sweet and pleasant flavor. They ripen extremely fast as well, from bud bloom to your mouth and belly is a very fast process. And the cream inner bracts are a stunning sight to see!
If you can overcome the cold sensitivity somehow, it might be worth it.
I have Red Kru and I have read there is a Green Kru, the wiki just calls it Kru until either more info can be gathered or till someone renames the page. :)

What? I thought you told me Lady Finger was your favorite! ;)

Okay, I edited the wiki to list those Green Kru and Red Kru as synonyms.
