Hey Jarred,

Remember the Red Iholene (sp?) that you came and got a large pup from? I moved that clump that was left to the back yard and I harvested a nice cluster of fruit off it yesterday. That is a neat tasting banana. I also harvested Ice Cream 2 weeks ago. First time for that one also. White fruit and different taste.

Here is the Red Iholene - I already removed several large hands that had ripened.

Yes of course I remember I still have the pup. It hasn't moved much but its doing well. I might dig it up and see whats going on down there, maybe it's in a bad spot.

I'm looking foward to tasting these myself. I just got a couple of Red Iholene this year but they are still small. If you get a chance could you post a pic of the full grown plants? I have not been able to find many pictures of this one on the web. Every search result for Red Iholene seems to turn up the same pic of a bloom. Thanks

Here is a pic of the Red Iholene grove. The one that fruited was the first trunk in this mat to fruit and it was just a little taller than the tallest one in the pic.

Hi I'm looking for info on this naner.I have a trade in progress for a pup.
my trader is wondering if this one has seeds in the fruit& also how long it takes for the fruit to ripen.Hers has flowered& is starting to set some fruit.she lives in Sumner WA.I'm unsure...but would guess hers is grown in pot& believe she said she has had plant for just over a year.


Thanks for haveing pics of the actual plants.I keep running into bloom pics...which are nice...but I knida want MORE as in all growth phases for better idea.

Terry,your yard looks great...whats the plant in pair to the left?Makes me think of a palm crossed with bamboo.I like it.

It is seedless and one of my favorites. I really like the flavor - it is a definitely different flavor than the cavendish, etc. My plant is a rapid grower. That grove started from one pup with about 2 ft of stem 2 years ago. I have already cut off and sold several nice pups. It fruited about 6 months ago and it pups a lot. Almost all of my bananas ripen in about 4 months but that is in S Florida.

Those palms are Foxtail. Woodyetia (sp?) Pretty common these days in FL. Back about 20 years ago, I had 2 that were from the original collected seeds found in one little valley in Australia. But now everyone has them.

I'm looking forward to growing the red Iholene.awaiting its arival she'll be sad to learn it don't set seed.but shes enjoyed its bloom& I've came across many photos of its bloom.Thanks for your info.

I looked it up.My zone denial is going to cause an add on to GH.I read it can tolerate freezes in the 30s.we sometimes dip in mid 20s but not for long& most times not longer than 6 hours.so do you agree it grows 3 ft a year?I have some hindsight on my side..my GH ceiling has 15 ft clearance.

First, go in to your profile (User CP) and put in where you live. That helps us all when talking about these kind of things.

I would say 3 feet in S FL with warm weather, lots of summer rain and fert. Not sure about where you live. I gave MediaHound a real large pup from this same plant that should have fruited this past summer but he said it isn't doing much. Guess mine is happy.
