RED ABYSSINIAN BANANA--when does it turn red?
Are they red from the start, or do they get red later on?

Re: RED ABYSSINIAN BANANA--when does it turn red?
The underside of the leaf should be mostly red, occasionally splashing over a little to the top of the leaf. The midrib is also red. Very young plants might be a bit greener, and will assume more color with age and size.

damn, this thing is totally green, healthy but green. It was sold to me as a RED ABYSSINIAN BANANA from, what I thought was a reputable dealer on EBAY. He's telling me it'll get more red with age. This thing is all green, with no visible red. Do you mean it should be red on the underside like a Red Rowe nana?

Did you buy it as seeds or an actual plant?

Re: RED ABYSSINIAN BANANA--when does it turn red?
Nah, it was a little plant. I emailed the seller, and he said it will eventually turn red.....yeah, the all white zebra I purchased will eventually get it's stripes.
At the same time he sold me Papaya plants "you will recieve both male and female". Instead of 2 potted plants, they were both in the same pot. Just before this I bought a different variety from another seller, only this seller provided 2 potted plants. I will post a picture so it can be identified later this afternoon. Thanks for all your help. --Rick |

The seller may have growm yours from seed, in which case it will never turn red.

Just a follow-up:
http://wellspringgardens.com is the seller, and he swears this was a TC, and blames my totally green, without a trace of green, on the cooler temps, and says in the summer it will change. I would not recommend this seller. Anyone have an extra Red Abssinian Banana? --Rick |
