recovery after the freeze
 

OK, I am thinking the danger of severe freeze is mostly gone, so I started cutting the frozen stems back. I have cut almost 2 ft of stem off my frozen RP, but the center cigar leaf is still dark brown (a lot of the surrounding stem is firm and green). Should I keep cutting off stem, or am I just taking away good stem that could be resorbed to support a new pup?

If the very center is still brown, you gotta keep going. That rot will keep going down the plant...

But make sure your temps are in the 60s+

We are supposed to be in the mid 60s by now, but it's been in the upper 50s with all these storms and clouds. I need it to warm up quick so I can get some P-Steam recovery!! Even so, since yesterday was close to 70, I went ahead and started cutting them back to green.

Oh and once you hit the cigar center as brown, it seems like you are getting close, maybe another foot. I'd say cut versus use for a pup, unless your plant is going to be less than a few inches

I wish I could be so positive. I have clipped my dead palm leaves off but not touching the nanners for a couple weeks for sure.

I went ahead and cut the RP back some more--it is down from about 6 ft to 2 ft--if it doesn't come out from there, I'll just wait for pups. I also cut back most of my Orinocos, but I only had to cut 6 inches to aft off most of them to get to a green center. I know we may have another frost or 2, but I don't think we will get any more mid 20s. I can protect the remaining stems and any growth from frost.

So far nothing cut back yet out of 3 plants and it made it to 18F once and like 10 days in the mid 20's. Kinda worried about the RP because the base might be swelling and it has no leafs.

Hey all we are getting unreal weather here on the Oregon Coast .
SNOW thats not norm the last 3 yrs we have gotten SNOW .
I need to move to cali Any one know of a house with about 2 acres for sale ?

No but the house i live in now is worth 400,000
and i could sell it pretty easy.
meaning I'm not in love.
its been a project since i bought it and well I'm almost done.

Tammy: I was only kidding when I said 8 million dollars. Those are only for exclusive neighborhoods only the rich can afford. But for us middle class, truthfully If you have $400K right now you can get a very decent house in San Diego, CA within a driving distance to the beach. Let's say 25 miles. But not 2 acres. one acre maybe but then you have to go further away.
The reason I know this was I tried to look for a house recently last month because I thought my other kid would go to college in San Diego and I thought it would be cheaper if two of them can live in a house cheaper than living in the dorms. It turned out that my other son choose to continue his studies locally.
Between 300K and 400K you can buy a 3to 4bd 2-4 bath house now because of the economic downturn which usually will sell for 6-800K.
You can plant your bananas and guavas and papayas and mangoes without fearing for the frost. Also you can go to the beach everyday.
There are so many beaches here you don't know where to go.
I have 4 realtors who are still emailing me available houses. Twice I flew to San Diego to look for a house and that's when I had a chance to see Tony of San Diego.
If you want I can give you their numbers.
But before you commit yourself, think of the property tax you have to pay every year. Lots.

I bought mine through mail.
I gogooled cherimoya from California nurseries and they are not expensive. But they are very sensitive to cold unless you live in San Diego or have a green house that will keep the temperature over 68 degrees.
I let mine stayed outside and wrapped them good so I don't kow yet what happenned inside the wrapper.
