![]() I ordered 2 ice cream blue java tc plants, 1 dwarf cavendish tc plant and a 1 pound bag of organic fertilizer from Florida Hills Nursery (I wish I had read reviews of the company before ordering). They arrived in a triangular mailing tube. All three plants arrived with broken stems close to the soil they were sent in. Nothing was secured in the tube, so everything was free to bounce from side to side and get crushed. My question is, are the plants still viable if I cut the stems below where they are bent, which is a couple of inches above the soil line?

![]() I would send these pics to Fla Hill and ask for replacements and instructions to for returning those. Tell them the plants were not secured from rolling around inside the shipping tube.
As for regrowing it is likely they will since there is some pstem Left after cutting. Last edited by edwmax : 05-24-2020 at 07:27 PM. |

![]() I use PayPal because they will dispute with the seller with issues like this. When I got crap from Florida hill I got all the $ back for damaged or incorrect plants. Try wellspring gardens. They are much better sellers.

![]() I meant, how can you tell what variety you have. Is there any way to tell before the tree produces fruit?

No .... and sometimes these nurseries will send a substitute plant if their stock is out. They know it will be 2 years before you find the error ...But the problem with the 'ice cream" go back years with Agristrarts & and their original supplier for the plant. |

![]() Actually I will add this: Unless a place has very good reviews, ask on this forum first. You'll get the scoop. I actually almost bought from FHN but I *did* see the mixed reviews elsewhere. So I asked here and was warned to stay the * * * * away. Alot of people had bad experiences with that place for various reasons. I'm actually surprised they're still in business. ... Good luck with your plants! |

![]() Update - I cut off the broken stems and put the plants in a larger pot. The 2 blue java plants have begun to sprout in the center of the stem, but the dwarf cavendish has not. The mailing tube the plants came in said the shipment was insured, so I e-mailed FHN and told them to file a claim and send me replacement plants. This is my first time to grow bananas - off to a rocky start!

![]() I used the contact form on the FHN website. If I don't get replacement plants, I'll just dispute the charge with my credit card company. I won't ask twice.
