RajaPuri

Ok, so after not working for 23 months I got a job at HomeDepot

Saturday the vendor (La Verne nursery) brought in several banana plants in 5 gal pots.

Rajapuri all with purple or wine colored blotches in their leaves and

IceCream/Blue Java.

I don't believe the RajaPuri have the wine colored blotches correct?

What I have growing at home that I believe do be RajaPuri have no wine colored blotches.

If they are not RajaPuri plants maybe they are a cavendish type, I would guesss.

I wonder if plants labeled Ice Cream are true or something else too?

The Cali Gold replacement from Florida Hill nursery also has a lot of wine colored blotches.

Who knows what I have in the yard, Dwarf Orinoco from a friends yard, MisiLuki from Encanto farms, and Namwa from Crazy Banana are the only ones I have confidence in them being what I believe them to be, also pisang klotek.

Eddie, the Namwah were delicious and you will be very happy with it once they fruit for you. Hope you still have the Pisang Klotek from me, too, which is the real one.
I do have the "real deal" Blue Java" (see photos of the fruits in my gallery), but before I had that one I bought the "La Verne" version at Lowes. Just by looking at it I have always said that it had more red color in the leaves and the P-stem than I have blush or lipstick in my make-up kit. Now it is fruiting for me and there is NO way that the La Verne one is anything close to my real Blue Java.
Do not fall for the HD "La Verne" so called Ice Cream, come on down and get the real one from my real Blue Java mat. BTW: waiting for the second bunch of that mat to ripen any day now. They have filled in nicely.

I personally think the Blue Java "Ice Cream" is over rated, I like the imitation much better. I also like the "Dwarf Namwah" better than the Raja Puri , just my personal experience.

My fake Ice cream is pretty dog-gone good.. :^)

Now as for the Real thing.. I think w/ all the negative talk of the real thing I'd try the fruit (I think there is an invite to do so down below) before you try growing something not many people like. Its about your taste buds. If it suits you that's all that matters.

I know one thing plants can do weird things. You get strong plants & weak ones. T/C's not having much corm can all look the same till they grow into themselves. I'm allergic to blood stains.. :^)

I have only harvested one bunch of the real deal" Blue Java". They were about 50/50: I panicked because we had frost in the weather forecast, so I cut the bunch after only 5.5 month. Most of the fruits were nicely filled in, but none were yellow ripe. They had a hard time to ripen in the garage but the fat ones that ripened, those tasted pretty good, probably even better and fruitier than the Namwah. I did not care for the ones that were not completely filled in, because they were quite stringy in the center. Cannot wait for bunch 2 and 3 to get ripe and hopefully this mat will produce 2 more bunches before year end, so I can judge even better.
