Raja Puri blooms/bananas
I just noticed two of my Raja Puris have blooms and have started a few hands of bananas. Is it worth trying to keep them warm of the winter to develop them, or should I just say the heck with it. I am going to have to move them in the spring anyway. Due to the fact that I didn't know they were so short when I planted them. They are in my childrens play area and I really wanted them for shade. These just take up ground space and are too short to offer shade. Its odd the on both plants the pups bloomed before the mothers. Each plant has 3 roughly equal size stems. One had four but I separated it and gave one away.

Why not, the pseudostem will be toast just the same if you whack it now or let winter consume it... just enjoy it for what it is and try and pull it through.. 9b, could be worse!

Cover it with a small pvc and plastic greenhouse with some x-mas lights inside. I'm sure in 9b you could get them to mature!

Re: Raja Puri blooms/bananas
What temp would I need to maintain to mature the fruit?

That is very encouraging to the rest of us in the desert!!! Congratulations on being the first one to get fruit (that I know anyway) It gives me renewed hope for mine here.

I would just see what happens; I think you have some time before the first frost. Or you could build a plastic enclosure around them.
let's see some pics! |
