Default Raja Puri Blooming?

I *think* it's about to go...? Would be my first, if so.

Hammocked, those pics are a little deceiving. The Rajapuri is sitting on a pretty high hill. It's not really as tall as the garage it's next to.

....and they're finally ripe. Wow, that took a long time (9 months from appearance of bloom to ripe). Is that fairly normal?

As for the taste, I must say it's very similar to the DB/"Apple Bananas" I've purchased when in Hawaii. Was expecting to be disappointed, but I gotta say I like 'em.

Did you take a photo of the bunch? How many hands, fingers and how heavy was it?
And why were you expecting to be disappointed? I have not seen any negative taste reports about Raja Puri yet
I think it seems OK for a fruit bunch to fill in and ripen in 9+ month here in Soutnern California over the winter. I am still waiting for my Ice Cream to show some signs of yellow. First hand also appeared in September 2013..

Thanks for the info, CB. Good to know others have similar experiences here.

I didn't take a pic of the bunch...I believe it put out 7 hands, but didn't get a count of fingers prior to commencement of piehole stuffing. I'll try to get some pics posted, but the weight wasn't very impressive. Due to lack of diligent fertilizing, I don't think they filled out as much as they could have.

I saw some reports about pithy/corky centers, and was somewhat prepared for the worst. Thankfully I was wrong.

You mentioned that it was your first bunch: second bunch will always be bigger and better. Now start to fertilize, get a summer bunch and you will be in banana heaven.
Good job.
