Hey ya'll,
I recently traded for my first raja puri. Traded a Goldfinger pup for a single rp corm with two suckers. The corm was VERY root bound in a plastic pot. Sad but comical. Removed the suckers and transplanted. They seem to be doing well. Planted the corm as well. I was really surprised to see a third sucker. Very bound up in all the roots. Just a nub of a p-stem trying to break through. Separated it and put in another pot. Covered with dirt/compost. Just to hold it until I can transplant. That was five days ago. It is putting out leaves. I am really impressed with these bananas.

Yeah, mine went from a rootbound TC plantlet to a 5 foot tall plant in 3 or 4 months! I would like a bloom...how tall do they get?
Will post progress pics tomorrow.

Raja Puri stays on the smallish size. I think I've read under 10' normally. I'm growing it for the first time this year as well.

Here is a year old pic of my Raja clump. It is a lot fuller this year and is very prolific. 2 weeks ago I cut down a good bunch of fruit, I have another bunch about 6 weeks old and a third bunch just finishing setting fruit. So on a clump with about 8 trunks, I had 3 in fruit at one time. It also pups like crazy. As for size, all of mine have fruited with a pseudostem about 6 ft tall. It is one of my favorite bananas.

This is an awesome clump! I really like the looks of this banana and it appears to stay on the small side.

My four foot Raja lived happily, potted, in my basement over last winter. Very little light and almost no water.I repotted larger and placed it outdoors and it is doing great and pupping.I have never had that kind of luck with basjoo in dormancy. Now basjoo "sinks or swims" inthe ground.

Jarred and Taylor,
Your plants are FAT! Wow! And Taylor, you're even in Zone 6-7! What are you feeding those things, steroids? Thanks for the pictures, both. |
