Questions for zone 4-7'ers

okay, here's my thoughts........... During the last week or so I have been re-evaluating my landscape and was thinking......Bananas! A couple short, a couple tall and all edible. But, I live in zone 5/6 (USDA zone 5b) and was interested in finding out some info. First question, what would be the largest naner I would 'want' to cut-back and dig-up to store in my basement, i.e. p-stem less than 8' after cut-back and total weight under 100 lbs.

Second question, if I'm not only going after foliage but, after fruit as well, is it possible to get good quality fruit from (for arguements sake) a saba after being cut-back and dug-up with the growing season only from mid-may to late sept?

Third question is along the line of number 2, If, year after year of said naner being cut back, will it quickly return to normal looks and size at a decent rate?

Now, with those asked, I'm going to ask that we presume soil, water and feeding is perfectly under control and plants will be very well taken care of.

i would go with orinoco for your edible if u r storeing them bare root check out big dogs post 'putting the bananas to sleep for the winter 'im gonna try kandarians and kru this year i got 20 of each i hope they will do as good as my orinocos do in my basement and keep the pstem i never had any luck with cavendish doing this method
