Hey everyone!,
I just planted my first banana, a dwarf cavendish. It is about 2 ft tall at its highest point, and I just transplanted it into a large pot. My question is, when can I expect to be able to harvest fruit? (assuming everything goes right). Also, how many times per year do these plants bear fruit? I know nothing so any info is more than I have now. Any tips for fast and healthy growth? Thanks guys and gals! Matt |

Probably flower in 2+ years, and take about 6 months to ripen. Subsequent crops depend on age and quantity of pups.

Yeah, it will probably take anywhere from 2-5 years in a container. They aren't as likely to fruit in a container, but you can definitely make it happen with good care. DC is better than a lot of others for container cultivation. As far as how many times per year they fruit...bananas only fruit once in their lifetime. Basically, they grow to full size, flower/fruit then die back to the corm (root structure kinda like a potato). Then the plant will send up new shoots. Many varieties send up pups before ever fruiting initially, so when the main plant dies back, you will have others to take its place.
Hope that info helps. ENJOY THE SITE!
