Default Question on Maoli

I have a Maoli that was about 18 inches tall when I planted it in Feb of 2018. The plant is now 10-12 feet tall and has a large flower emerging. My question is this. Do Maoli's produce that quickly? I was very surprised to see the flower coming out today, I was thinking somewhere around May. The plant is one of the fastest growers I have in my garden.

If I had to guess it is probably to verify if your plant is indeed what you think it is. Usually the flower is a good way to ID banana plants.

The specific question was on the grotwth habbits of a Maoli. What if I did not have a Maoli and was assking the general question? Also this site is the most difficult site I have ever been on to load pics. Calling a question worthless is something that did not need to be done. Again this is why I rarely come to this site.

but instead of getting an attitude you should have blown me off and waited for someone who would have answered your question.

but to answer your question from an inexperienced point of view; evidently [if it really is a maoli]…………….yes

Thank you for the apology and I apologize as well.

My question was answered by a lovely woman in Hawaii that my daughter knows who has many Maolis. I am an amature who likes to grow fruiting plants. Citrus, Papaya, Guava, berry bushes, Cherries, and avacados, figs, you name it. I plunk it in the ground with good soil and see what happens. I have been expanding my banana plants aggresively for two and a half years. Prior to that I only had dwarf Cavendish that were given to us by a neighbor who was moving away. I like banana plants, they are impressive looking, tropical and the selection of varieties seems endless. I have been trying to get time to add to my gallery but life tends to get in the way.

hey, no problem. things said here can many time be misconstrued and twisted.

this place is a great place to interact and see other peoples plants and not just bananas. I have figs, guava, peaches, pears and apples to name a few, tried papaya, love papaya, but you need a greenhouse for winter time and it would take the place of other plants and a greenhouse would only be used for a month or two. been trying to do citrus for years but winter always eventually gets them.

unfortunately I have maxed out my pics on this site and have to look for a source from another site. I have a facebook account but there is so much drama I hate it so I have not been on there for years. I like this place everyone gets along so well here.

glad you got your answer

Went to Pro Musa...looked up stuff..

What are the unique identifiers which helped you ID the plant without a flower or a fruit...

In my case I can only go by what I purchased or known to be true. I have about a dozen dwarf Cavendish and they are very consistant with size, growth habits, and fruit produced. They match up nearly perfectly from other people who have them as well. As for others I have to rely on the tag from the nursery. I have a few that I got from friends and they either bought them and put them in or in one case a friend purchased a house from a couple that had banana plants on the property. That particular case the couple kept detailed records of all their garden plantings. I did buy a "Costa Rican Sweet" from a gentleman who is in our general area. The plants were large and inexpensive. A little investigating and I found out that there is no such thing as a Costa Rican Sweet. Heck if it gives me tastey bananas I'm good.
