![]() I have a Musa zebrinus that is about 8' (overall height), and looks great... It has done exceptionally well, but I have noticed that the last 3 new leaves or so are acting strangely... I have never encountered this, but as a new leaf in unfurling, the next one behind it is "wrapped" up inside the emerging leaf... The emerging leaf on one side will not open up because of the next leaf is wrapped up in it... I have to physically tear the emerging leaf to separate the two... What causes this and how can I get it to start growing normally??? Any advice would be appreciated... I can post a pic when the next leaf start to emerge next week if needed...
Thanks in advance, |

![]() I see this from time to time during this time of year especially. I am not sure exactly what causes it but think there are a couple of possibilities.
1) High nitrogen levels that encourage very fast growth and cause the leaf below to grow too fast and it gets "wound up" inside the older leaf before it can unfurl. 2) High temps that encourage very fast growth and cause the leaf below to grow too fast and it gets "wound up" inside the older leaf before it can unfurl. 3) Humidity levels that are a little too low (or possibly too high?) and the leaves get "stuck" together as in the above situations. I have had a little success with misting the plant and it may make a difference. Do you store your M. zebrinas during the winter our have they grown from the ground that much this year? They sound like they are getting great care. |

![]() GATrops,
This is my first year with them, and they were about 1 1/2' tall when I put them in the ground in mid May... The other does not get as much sun, and is only about half the size. I will be trying to overwinter a few of the pups for next year... The smaller one does not show any of the above signs and I also have an Orinoco that is planted about 4' away from the larger zebrinus that also does not show any signs of problems... Thanks for the response and I will try and see if misting the plant helps any... |
