Default pups over winter

I pretty much have a plan for my first winter thanks to reading through numerous posts on this forum. I have learned a lot about banana plants, spammers, and growing things in general. Thanks to all.

I have what I feel is a fine specimen of a xyz variety. XYZ because it came from Florida Hill as a Blue Java. I'm pretty sure it's a Namwah. anyway this thing has had incredible growth since it's June 10th planting. The pups are popping out and a few of them are getting rather large. My plan is to mulch the base heavily, probably make a "container" for the mulch out of chicken wire. Depending on the weather this winter I may cut the pstem down a bit but want to let it roll if possible.

So do I separate these pups before I do the mulch thing around mid November or so? I can pot them up and keep them happy in a makeshift greenhouse but would they be better off attached during this period?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Here are a few more pictures.

It helps to fill out your location and zone information. No one has any idea how cold it gets
At your location.

Yes sorry I'm in 8B, Charleston SC. My back yard is as warm of any place in town. I get sun from 10 am until sunset and after noon or so reflection off of my house (hardiplank and very reflective window) and quite a bit of concrete decking around a pool. I could make a case for having a 9A backyard.

Your ground pups will probably be fine in the ground over winter then. Or you could throw a frost blanket over them.

Or just seperate one and leave one and see how it goes. 9a should be too cold.
