Hi,
I know that if a Maurelli has stragles, you can cut it, damage the growing-point and force it to pup...
But I was wondering, did anybody try this with other Ensete species e.g. ventricosum?

In Etheopia they do it too Ensete ventricosum, and Maurelli is a just a variety of ventricosum, so same deal there.
I've heard that it doesn't work with the other species, but I might give it a try with E.superbum 'India' just for the heck of it.

I'm thinking of having a go with a monty,afterall thats just a form of ventricosum too so in theory it should work.

you can always divide the corm leaving eyes and roots on each piece that works great with EV

Did you try that yourself? Do you just cut all the leaves and split the corm in half?

I know that's the main method of propagating normal ventricosum in Ethiopia, but never heared of anyone trying it outside Africa. trange because it's so 'common' in Maurelli's case.

If that works with Monty that would be great, Monty's are very hard if not impossible to find here in Europe.

I would leave the corm in one piece and rooted so that it remains healthy . If you let the plantlets grow on long enough they will seperate themselves from the corm and each other . A weekly fertilizer spray will help things along.
And if you get vinegar gnats ,fungi ,mold, and it looks like things are through, thats when it all starts shaping up.
It would be great to see some members brave this on the more hard to find Ensetes.

This past spring I thought one of my ensete maurelli's was rotten and I cut it down to the corm and then split the corm into 4. I now have 4 pots looking much like lagniappe's pics above.

I have read articles that have said that this only works with Ensete ventricosum. E. glaucum and E. superbum have been attempted and failed. If I get enough sprouts on my E. gilletii, I plan on trying with it when one gets some size to it. It is supposedly very closely related to E. ventricosum.

I did try this on two bareroot, dormant corms of E. ventricosum this year. One eventually rotted, and the other was just dug up last week from its pot with lots of white roots. It tried to put up some pups, but they would only get a few millimeters high and then croak. I will try it on some actively growing plants with roots next time.

its inportint ans this aplies to all plants that you devid to propigat that after the devitions dont over water and make sure the pots are in good air movment one good thing about living in the desert is that we have alot of wind wich at werst is vary drying but at best permots helthy clean stems and leafs alot of your guys and gals that live in tropcal zones with cramped gardins dont realis that the air in and around your plants dosint move i say rool of thumb let there be as much space betwin pots as is posibal better to have to water oftin them to have a pot be water loged
