Oi Robby! Don't go into infanticide! Darn puppy is way too small to separate from the mommy. My opinion is to let it grow to at least 1/3 the mommy size. Then we talk again..k....

Robby, there are quite a few posts on this. One that Jarred did has a nice illustration. Wait until it is about 16-24" tall. The larger the pot the better the root development. They do this for many reasons:
1.) To continue the plant after flowering. 2.) Stress 3.) to help growth conditions for the mat and some other reasons.

Hi, I had a Dwarf Musa Novak. It produced two pups last August. I brought it in from the deck before it got too cold. I let it continue growing by my sliding doors. Eventually mother plant went into a dieing off period. The pups(2),at 7
-8 inches tall were carefully removed. By this time there were plenty of roots.
I dusted cut with hormone powder w/fungicide. I planted each in a five inch pot. I spray mist daily. They are doing really well. This is my first experience
with musa. I have a lot of experience with other plants. My opinion would be not to rush. Make sure they are of good size before attempting to move them.
Good Luck! Hope this has helped you

Robby, you should wait at least a couple months. Give it time to develop it's own roots. Here is a pic someone posted here on where to cut the pup off.
