Well done !!
"Normal" people have no idea what it feels like when one of our plants
pups.
It never fails to make me happy.
Knowing "Little prince" as I do you will get even more "babies".
Dont know why but it just feels good.
Best wishes all enthusiasts.:D

sounds like Little Prince is very productive with it's pups. I have had two of these for about 4-6 months now and one is starting to develope two pups but the other hasn't yet. I think they are really cute little plants.

Hey! Welcome to the board. In my opinion, this is the best board on the Web! Yes, I agree. Very Cute, and also, Very productive. ZacInNC has a few plants, and I believe they have doubled! Zac, am I right?

Re: Pup On Little Prince!!!

Yeah I bought one plant at Plant Delights Nursery in May. I planted it out, then decided I would divide it when I noticed a few pups. I bought it with 2 stems, then I split it into 5 divisions, which I planted out into the ground. When the plants around them started crowding them out, I dug them all up to pot them and divided one again and ended up with 6 plants. One plant went to Taylor, which now has the pup the thread is about and another of mine has pupped again, so since May, my particular plant has gone from 2 plants to 7( of which I have 6). I know the one I bought and sent to Gabe hasn't grown that well, but you have to keep in mind that he is so high in elevation and growing indoors too.

I also got mine from Plants Delights Nursery and really like them. I kept them indoors for the first few weeks, until early June, and then put them out on the front steps in afternoon sun. bot grew well all summer, only suffering from a hail storm two weeks ago which split their leaves a bit. I have just brought them in now, as the night temps have been going down to around 50 degrees F. I'm hoping to keep them and my SDC's alive and going till I can put them back outside next year.

Oh really, I have only heard good things about PDN. Where are you located? You can put it in your profile, and please, it helps a lot with conversation. What are the types of Plants do you raise?

Oh BTW Guys, There was a small worm on the pup:confused: It looked like an inch worm. What types of Worms and what should I use to kill them, that is environmentally friendly, besides my hands GROSS! THEM BABIES AINT EVER GONNA TOUCH MY NANNERS AGAIN!!!!:woohoonaner:

Glad to hear you also buy plants from PDN. I love them. I go to most of the open Houses that they have, at least one day in the winter, spring, mid summer and the fall ones. I consider Tony to be a good friend and I like buying from him. He has several plants growing now that are collections from me, including a variegated Agave I found in Mexico, which I have named Agave gentryi 'La Pena Colada'

If it's just a few, there really isn't anything better and more ecologically friendly than... your hands and the readiness to squish them under your feet. Don't worry, the gag reflex will lessen in time when you realize that you're in valiant battle for the health and beauty of your fair nanner. :)

Be well,
Mike

Re: Pup On Little Prince!!!

I haven't bought anything else from PDN, yet, but will keep them in mind next time.

My Little Prince plants arrived in great shape and have done well for me, so far. I guess my main question is "will they keep on doing good thru the winter or will they act like Super Dwarf Cavendish?", that is, die back in late winter? I have had this happen to my SDC, as well as having them choke and die.

I also have just bought two Truly Tiny plants and was wondering if anyone has had any experience growing them. It would be nice if they fruited, but that isn't necessary. I just enjoy growing these little pretties!

Re: Pup On Little Prince!!!

My Truly Tiny and Little Prince plants (I had two of each) made it through the winter in good shape. Then, in May, one each of the Truly Tiny and Little Prince died back and pupped. I now have two pots of Turly Tiny with two plants in each and two of Little Prince with severial plants in each.

I just put a pup of Little Prince in a semi-hydro pot as an experiment. Has anyone else tried to grow these plants in hydro?

I like these neat little plants and hope to find more bananas in this size range.

I would love to get hold of some plants from PDN, but the hassle and cost factor for international ordering is prohibitive! So count your lucky stars that most of you can use PDN.

plantman532000 07-11-2007 12:35 PM

Re: Pup On Little Prince!!!

My "Truly Tiny" finally has a pup that has grown large enough that I feel good about dividing, so I removed one and have put it also into semi-hydro, just for fun to see how it will do.

My "Little Prince" that I put into hyro last month is doing good, but I think I should give it a bit more sun....but not too much! I kept it indoors under lights till it got established.

They do seem to do a lot better on my west steps where they get lots of shade till late afternoon.

Re: Pup On Little Prince!!!

I bought mine at Lowes on clearance in nov last year.I wintered in house in front of french doors in kitchen getting northern lighting.I do think it resented being planted out in April. It started to look veriegated but has greened up now and done great.no problems.I'll likely winter it in same pot as last year a nursery qt pot in the same place or out in GH.I'll plant out in May this year when the ground is warmer.I figured being was staying above 50s that was good enough.
Also glad to hear good things as I've not heard much good about the lil prince.I'm told is a lil princess and that it's a better grower.
